About Street Whyze Project CIC

 

Street Whyze Project CIC was founded in December 2021, initially as a community-led campaign to raise awareness and encourage action against knife crime and youth violence across East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire. The initiative was established following the tragic loss of two young lives in these areas, highlighting the urgent need for proactive, preventative interventions that address the underlying causes of youth violence rather than simply responding to its consequences.

In February 2022, award-winning founder and director Danny Mondesir, who has been a prominent voice on knife crime and youth violence across the Midlands for over eight years, formally incorporated Street Whyze Project as a Community Interest Company (CIC). His vision was to establish an organisation delivering authentic, informed and outcome-focused interventions, combining extensive professional experience with a genuine understanding of the challenges and influences affecting young people.

Since its establishment, Street Whyze has developed into a respected, award-winning provider of youth-focused interventions across the Midlands, working in partnership with schools, local authorities, educational establishments and community organisations. The organisation has built its reputation on a distinctive, practical and relational approach that prioritises quality, credibility and measurable outcomes.

The Story Behind Street Whyze

Growing up in Hackney, East London, Danny experienced first-hand the challenges, pressures and negative influences that can shape the lives and choices of young people in urban communities.

​

Rather than becoming drawn into these influences, he learned to recognise, navigate and avoid the situations, behaviours and associations that could have led him down a very different path. Developing this awareness, understanding his environment and making informed choices enabled him to become "street wise", the inspiration behind the name Street Whyze.

​

This experience remains central to the organisation's philosophy. It is not simply about understanding the streets, but recognising the influences, pressures and decisions that can determine a young person's future.

​

Combined with over 20 years of professional experience across youth services, education and inclusion, the criminal justice system, pastoral and behaviour management, children's services, mental health and experience of the armed forces, Danny brings a distinctive combination of lived experience, professional knowledge and practical understanding to his work.

Education, Understanding and Prevention, Not Just Storytelling

Street Whyze takes a different approach to tackling youth violence, criminal exploitation and negative youth culture.

Our interventions are not built around storytelling, shock tactics or simply recounting experiences of violence and criminality. While personal experiences can provide context and credibility, there is limited evidence that storytelling alone produces meaningful or sustained behavioural change among young people who may be susceptible to becoming involved in violence or criminal activity.

Instead, Street Whyze concentrates on educating young people about the realities of negative youth culture and, crucially, the contributory factors that influence behaviour, attitudes and decision-making.

This includes exploring issues such as peer pressure, social media influence, identity, reputation, territorial behaviour, perceived disrespect, group dynamics, exploitation and the normalisation of violence as a means of resolving conflict.

​

The emphasis is on helping young people understand why these behaviours develop, how individuals become drawn into them, the consequences of their choices and, most importantly, how to recognise and avoid the risks.

​

This approach encourages critical thinking, personal accountability, emotional awareness and informed decision-making rather than relying on fear or short-term emotional reactions.

We believe effective prevention requires more than telling young people what can happen. It requires helping them understand why it happens and equipping them with the awareness and skills to make different choices.

Street Whyze recognises that effective intervention requires more than qualifications, presentations or personal stories. It requires the ability to understand young people's environments, recognise what is happening behind their behaviour, build meaningful relationships and deliver interventions that reflect the realities they face.

Our approach combines lived experience, professional expertise, education and practical intervention, with a strong emphasis on early identification, prevention, positive relationships and measurable outcomes.

We recognise that behaviour rarely exists in isolation. Understanding the circumstances, influences and experiences contributing to a young person's choices is essential to achieving meaningful and sustainable change.

Street Whyze remains deliberately focused on delivering high-quality, personalised interventions rather than pursuing growth for its own sake. Our reputation has been built on credibility, consistency, trusted relationships and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for the young people and organisations we support.
